Productivity Power

May 12, 2020

How productive are you when it comes to your business? One thing that leads to confidence inside business is productivity. I get it, the idea of productivity is much easier to grasp than putting it into practice– but there are a few simple things that you can do to up productivity and benefit your business. First, turn off your phone notifications! Eliminating this distraction allows you to focus and complete your tasks faster. Next, create a playlist to motivate you while you work! Studies show that 90% of business leaders perform better when listening to music, and 88% of leaders produce more accurate work https://www.webfx.com/blog/internet/music-productivity-infographic/. Find a playlist you love and listen to it until the task at hand is complete. Lastly, get organized! It’s no secret that being organized boosts productivity. It saves time and eliminates the stress of searching for items needed to complete the project. There are 1440 minutes in a day, don’t waste them. Always use each minute to work productively and reach your goals. Changing the way you work can change your life.

Productivity = Fulfillment

Productivity doesn’t have to be complicated or scary. Simplifying productivity by eliminating distractions, creating a motivational playlist, and getting organized will lead to fulfillment in the long run! These three practices enable you to work efficiently and will open up more space in your life so you can work on achieving bigger goals. Although making productivity a habit takes dedication and practice, there are steps you can take to make the process less daunting. Start by forming a system that works for you, committing to it, then observe how your business thrives. Remember, everyone’s system is different— what may work for someone else, might not work for you. Take time to figure out how you work best and put an emphasis on that process.

Often I’m asked about my favorite books for productivity– on top of the list is “Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time” by Brian Tracy. This book changed my life and helped me understand the power of productivity and getting things done that you might not want to do! Tracy puts an emphasis on doing the things that you dread first thing in the morning to get them completed and out of the way. Whether that’s working out or reaching out to past customers, completing the dreaded tasks first will make the rest of your day less stressful and more fulfilling. Once I started implementing this practice in my life, I saw significant changes to not only my productivity but my happiness. Life shouldn’t be about being perfect or getting it right the first time, 100% of the time. Instead, it should be about progress. When you’re productive and knock tasks off of your to-do list– that’s progress and leads you one step closer to success.

Working Under Pressure and Multitasking

How many times have you heard someone say, “I work best under pressure”? If this someone sounds like you, I encourage you to get rid of this mindset TODAY. You might work best under pressure, but as a leader, you have to be mindful of the people following you. When you complete tasks at the last minute, this strains the productivity of your team– many of whom might not thrive under pressure! Lead by example by crushing deadlines and getting tasks done promptly. Time is an important asset, and the one thing that will buy you more of it is time management.

Furthermore, if you are working on one task, always get it done before starting another. Doing several things at one time will hinder your efficiency and productivity! Where your attention goes, your energy flows, and the results show. If you’re working and watching tv and your attention is on the TV even for a mere second, your energy will flow there, and the results of your work will be poor. If you’re working, work! Be disciplined enough to focus, and you’ll get the desired results. Lack of disciple will cause your business and work ethic to suffer, and eventually, other people’s demands will start controlling you! Set boundaries for yourself and always focus your time on one thing at a time that will make you better.

Small Tweaks

Success isn’t about making one revolutionary change in your business; it’s about making small tweaks each and every day that will lead you to live your life by design. The tweaks can be anything from engaging more with your customers to a small change on your website. But, while these small tweaks are significant, never let them limit you! Don’t stop focusing on the bigger picture. Remember, you will never have time for everything, but you will have time for the right things. Always do now what you promised to do later. Focus on your top priorities and take advantage of the extra time that productivity has given you and get out there and share your business and passions.
