Complacency Battle

May 27, 2020

With May coming to an end, now’s the time to determine what the second half of your year will look like. Although you’ve seen business success in the first 6 months of 2020, don’t rest on your laurels and become complacent. It’s important to look in the rearview mirror and acknowledge what made your business successful so far—but always strive for more! I get it, complacency happens to the best of us, but it’s time to change up your strategies and reevaluate. Complacency can feel like a giant enemy, but there are simple strategies to help fight through.

Clear Communication

First, communicate clearly and have open and honest conversations. Never be afraid to have vulnerable and challenging discussions—these help you grow! By clearly communicating your goals and expectations for yourself and your business, you keep those goals and standards at the forefront. Make sure you’re crystal clear with each and every one of your customers. People will buy from you because of pleasure or pain points they want to address and it’s up to you to show them what you can do to help address those points.

Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

Try new things! It’s terrifying to break from your norm, but you won’t grow in your comfort zone. That new marketing strategy you’ve wanted to try? Do it! Reach out to potential customers and repeat buyers, push yourself to have a record number of parties, set a goal you haven’t set before! Always step outside of the box because doing new things keeps your passion ignited.

Recognition Matters

Lastly, recognize strong performance. Success is always better when celebrated. Not only should you acknowledge your own success, recognize the successes of others as well! By doing this, you make that person feel valued, and your recognition could be the one thing that keeps them going. Own your relationships, send thank you cards, make phone calls to keep lines of communication open. When people feel recognized and appreciated, they’re more likely to want to work with you again. Always be thankful and show gratitude.

Push Yourself

It’s important to acknowledge that there is always someone looking to put you out of business—don’t let them! When you become complacent, you’re giving competitors a chance to block your success. Leaders who adopt these strategies can create teams and cultures that guard against and confront complacency. Come to the table each and every day ready to work hard and push yourself beyond all limits.
